DTCAGSM

ICOM Ireland is extremely grateful for the vital financial support provided by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media (DTCAGSM) over the last few years. The grants provided by the Department have supported key activities of the Committee, promoting and protecting Ireland’s heritage and culture.

Details of which are highlighted in ICOM Ireland’s annual reports.

The Local Authority Museums Network (LAMN) represents the twelve Local Authority Museums across the state who all play a vital role in the social, cultural and economic life of Ireland’s regions. The LAMN’s membership currently comprises of Carlow; Cavan; Clare; Cork; Louth; Donegal; Galway; Kerry; Limerick; Monaghan; Tipperary and Waterford.

We are a national professional network of collections based designated cultural institutions that advocates and promotes the diverse archaeological and historical richness of our museums for the enjoyment and engagement of the communities we serve.

To mark International Museum Day 2021, objects from around the country were showcased in an online exhibition Artefacts of Rebellious Ireland.

Heritage Council

The Heritage Council was established under the Heritage Act, 1995. It is an independent state sponsored body which has a statutory responsibility to propose policies and priorities for the identification, protection, preservation and enhancement of the national heritage.

The Heritage Council's function is to promote interest, education, knowledge and pride in the national heritage and facilitate the appreciation and enjoyment of the national heritage.

European Heritage Volunteers has been active in heritage-related volunteering for more than twenty years. Its objective is to establish links between the fields of heritage and volunteering by continuously working to foster a deeper understanding of heritage and volunteering among those active in either field, and by linking the two fields through practical hands-on projects and educational activities.

European Heritage Volunteers works to enable heritage activists to network throughout Europe – heritage-related initiatives in the field of volunteering for heritage as well as young heritage experts and young heritage reporters – in order to facilitate the exchange of experiences, ideas and best-practice models and to stimulate interaction.

Blue Shield Ireland

The Blue Shield aims to protect cultural and heritage sites from attack in times of armed conflict or civil disturbance, and from natural disasters. It also promotes awareness of the importance of preserving heritage sites and their contents in peacetime and during conflict. The basis for the Blue Shield is the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property and its additional first and second protocols.

ICOM Ireland has two representatives on the Irish National Committee of Blue Shield.
